First Annual Troop 501 Chili Supper

Please mark you calendars, now, for Troop 501’s First Annual Chili Supper, on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at New Hope UMC. We will prepare the chili on-site, and have it available during the church’s Annual Trunk or Treat. We will have tickets to sell in advance, as well as during the event. The assistance of EVERY SCOUT AND HIS FAMILY are critical to the success of this event.

As a Boy Scout Troop, we have a recurring need to purchase new equipment and fix equipment in need of repair. In order to keep costs as low as possible, Troop 501 conducts fundraisers. We have two types of fundraisers: Troop fundraisers, and individual fundraisers. Profits from Troop fundraisers directly support the troop, itself, and participation IS MANDATORY. Profits (or a portion thereof) from Individual fundraisers, such as wreath and popcorn sales, fund individual Scout accounts. The Chili Supper is a Troop fundraiser, and therefore, participation is mandatory.

Troop 501 Wants You!

As the old song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” School is back in session, the mercury is starting to settle a little lower, and it’s time for the annual recruiting season.

We have a few recruiting events lined up, and we need everyone’s help to pull off our most successful recruiting event, ever! First, invite all of your friends to join the troop. I know that sounds kind of silly, but just think about it… These are your friends, right? You like spending time with them, and they like spending time with you. You like adventure, they like adventure, your other fellow scouts like adventure… What could be more fun than getting together with your friends – at a campout – hiking, camping, exploring, maybe climbing, rappelling, canoeing, or any other of a number of adventures, just waiting for you and your friends?!

To help us recruit new Scouts, we have the following events scheduled: Sunday, August 28, 2011, from 7:30 am to about 1:00 pm, New Hope will be hosting a “Ministry Fair,” for congregants to explore the various groups and activities available at the church. We are one of those groups. We will set up a mock campsite, complete with tents, a table, and chairs. Feel free to bring items that you have made, or photos you have of exciting adventures we have shared… We will have fliers to pass out after services (or before, if we can – better chance of getting them read prior to the service, than afterward). If we get the fliers in time, we will get them out to Saint John’s (5th grade and up), and other schools that don’t have a Boy Scout Troop already established, as well as neighboring churches (St John’s, Salvation Army, New Hope – Of Course -, and First Baptist Church of Arnold, etc).

Our regularly-scheduled meeting for the following Tuesday has been canceled in favor of a Troop 501 Open House on September 1, 2011. We will have a “Survivor”-style fire competition. Be sure to invite all of your friends! This will be the night that we will try to sign up as many new Scouts as we already have. The goal this year is two new Scouts for each current. We have 13 Scouts, so 26 new boys ought to be a blast. With all of the fun that we have, it shouldn’t be difficult to recruit new Scouts. It would be great to have a campout in September, so start thinking about that, and the Camporee in October, with Cooking as its theme.

We’ve Moved!

Troop 501 has moved… We are now meeting at New Hope United Methodist Church, in Arnold, located just south of Rockport Heights Elementary School, at 3921 Jeffco Boulevard. If you get to the stop light at Telegraph, you’ve gone too far!

Meetings will continue weekly, on Tuesdays, at 7:00 pm.

Summer Camp – We Survived!

Here, we are, in August, back from another exciting year at summer camp. This year, we were at Camp Gamble at S bar F Scout Ranch. We had adventure-filled days, excitement-filled nights, and an achievement-filled week… All of our Scouts earned merit badges, and Billy earned 7 – that’s essentially one each day, including arrival and departure days! Way to go, Billy!

Now, that we are all home, the adventure and fun don’t have to end… On Sunday, August 28, we will be participating in the New Hope United Methodist Church Activities Fair. We will be passing out literature, and encouraging other boys too join our troop. On Thursday, September 1, we will have an Open House to promote our troop. This will be a great event, and we need all our Scouts to be present.
