This Weekend’s Campout

Don’t forget to bring money to troop meeting for this weekend’s campout ($15), if you have not already paid. It’s going to be a fun one! When packing, don’t forget to pack your swim trunks, water shoes, and a towel in addition to your regular camping gear!

Woot woot!

Welcome, New Arrowmen!

We had a great time at the Order of the Arrow Shawnee Lodge, #51, Fall Reunion! Garret and Tyler L, and Tyler M, joined us for an incredible Ordeal weekend. All told, there were 63 Ordeal Candidates from our Chapter, and 8 Elangomats (or “Friends,” guides for the new candidates). Of those eight, 6 Elangomats were from Troop 501! The Candidates toiled long and true, in silence, eating only scant meals under the watchful eyes and guidance of their Elangomats. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? It was all worthwhile, however, as after they endured their Ordeal, they were admitted fully into the Brotherhood of the Order of the Arrow, as Ordeal Honor Members. All were so worn out from the days activities that by the time Mr Hufford returned from his Brotherhood Honor ceremony, every Scout and Leader had retreated to their tent, and gone to bed. What a great sight for a scoutmaster’s sore eyes! The excitement was still so high in these Scouts (especially the renewed excitement in those Arrowmen who went to the ceremony to support their Brothers) that even as we broke camp, they couldn’t wait to talk about their desire to start their own ceremonial team, and most said they were prepared to commit themselves to completing the requirements for Brotherhood Honor by Spring Conclave.2013-09-07 17.26.01-2

OA Fall Reunion

sashesAll Arrowmen are expected to attend the Order of the Arrow Fall Reunion, next weekend, and support our Ordeal Candidates, Sam, Steven, and Mr Vitello. This is a huge event in the life of any Scout and Arrowman. Let’s show our newest members our support! We will also be joined by three Scouts from another unit. Let’s show them a great time, and how we support our members, and encourage them to join Troop 501! Be sure to order your tickets, NOW, if you haven’t, already! If you are a Candidate, you need to order a Candidate ticket. If you are already an Arrowman, you need to purchase an Arrowman ticket, WITH DINNER. The troop is only providing Breakfast, on Sunday.

In addition to supporting our newest members, this is an opportunity for all current Ordeal members to continue their journey toward Brotherhood, an expectation of all Arrowmen, by working on service projects. If you’ve misplaced your Brotherhood card, you may download another one, here: Brotherhood Card.

We will be leaving from New Hope at 5:30 pm. Please note that this is an earlier departure time, than usual. This will allow Ordeal members to sign up to be Elangomats for Saturday’s Ordeal, immediately upon arrival. Be sure to eat dinner! All Arrowmen who have not yet completed all of their requirements for Brotherhood will be expected to participate in the Ordeal.
