It’s Official!

campaign-hat_lrgEffective immediately, Troop 501 is implementing a new Uniforming Policy…

Campaign hats, the traditional hat of Scouting (and Drill Instructors/DIs, and troopers, everywhere), will be considered to be the official Class A, Dress Uniform Hat for all Troop 501 Scouts who have achieved the rank of First Class and above! ONLY QUALIFIED SCOUTS will be permitted to wear the campaign hat. This is recognition of their hard work and efforts!
We have worked very hard to find these at the best possible price for our Scouts, Leaders, and their families. Brand new Official BSA campaign hats by Stetson are available from the Scout Shop for $95. Strattford, the manufacturer for the United States Army, US Park Service, and many law enforcement agencies, sell them for $130. We are currently seeking donations of gently used, serviceable campaign hats from any available resource, or donations from anyone who can afford to make one in any denomination, to purchase new hats. Thanks to Officer Messmer, we have been extended a very generous offer from the owner of Uncle Sam’s Outfitters. They will sell us new campaign hats by Scala (pictured below), for only $44.xx, plus freight. So, if you would like to purchase a NEW hat for your son (or yourself), please get $50 (to include freight) to Officer Messmer at the very next meeting. Otherwise, we will get a gently used, but serviceable hat for any qualified Scout, as soon as one becomes available.
It is VERY important that you know your son’s hat size, as measured correctly. The campaign hat is worn high on the head, brim level to the ground. It is CRITICAL that your son’s head is measured correctly. Using a measuring tape, measure around the forehead, just above the eyebrows, level to the ground. Use the size chart below (keep in mind that the campaign hat is round, and most heads are oval – your hat will require some fitting, steaming, and stretching – but it will be well worth it)! If your son’s name appears below, please get his hat size to me, IMMEDIATELY!!!
Thank you!
